BARC Humane Society

  • BARC does not have a facility so we utilize people’s homes to provide care for the animals in our rescue. Fosters are the backbone of a rescue.
  • A foster provides a temporary home for a dog/cat. They make a commitment to care for their foster until the best fit adoption home is found. There isn’t a timeframe for how long the animal may be in your home.
  • Fosters can be short term, long term, hospice care, overnight or extended times.
  • Fosters provide food, love, socialization, and training to their foster animal(s). They provide input on their fosters’ personality and what their best fit home should be. Fosters have input into permanent placement of their fosters.
  • Fosters provide transportation for scheduled appointments to the rescue's veterinarian (Lake Park Veterinary Clinic). BARC covers all medical expenses, including flea and heartworm prevention.
  • Fosters must assure that their foster animals attend at least two adoption events a month. Events are every Saturday (11 AM-5 PM) at PetSmart in Valdosta, Georgia.
  • If you have any other questions please contact us

  1. Contact us via Facebook, email or telephone.
  2. Provide your name, telephone number and address. Also provide your veterinarian's information and the name the account is under.
  3. A veterinary reference will be done to ensure that your animals are spayed/neutered, up to date with their vaccinations, and on continued heartworm prevention. These are requirements for all foster or adopter.
  4. If the veterinary reference check goes well, you will be contacted so a BARC representative can complete your home visit to ensure that it will be a safe environment for the BARC dog/cat.
  5. If you have any other questions please contact us.

It happens! We know that are some fosters that you know you cannot bear to live without and need to make them part of your family. We call these "foster failures," which despite the term, is a positive thing! Please let one of the admin volunteers know that you plan on adopting your foster.
